Despite some stories of half-breeds and rumours of such being a carefully kept secret, there has been no verified reports of interspecies children with ONE exception. Of all the species, only dragons, who have the natural ability to transform into other species physically, are able to have children with other species. This will be covered in a separate heading. There are no half orcs, half elves or anything like that. There is genetic compatibility between the sub-races of various species, however. Ice elves can have children with Desert or Dark Elves. All fae species are genetically compatible with each other, despite having some wildly different appearances. This has led to some interesting cultural developments among all the species. For one thing, interspecies dating isn’t frowned upon, and it’s not even given a second thought, because it will never result in children. Hooking up with someone of a different species is just no big deal, and in some respects, this is what helped push the sexual revolution into happening. However, that attitude DOES change when it comes to marriage. As there will never be any children from the union, marrying outside your species is frowned upon by every species. Most see it as giving up on your species. Even those humans who hate other humans find it distasteful to marry outside your species. This attitude will even extend to specific sub-races of the species. For example, Dark Elves are xenophobic to the point where they don’t even like their children dating outside their own race, let alone their own species.

Dragons

With dragons being the sole exception to genetic compatibility it is best to explain how this works and why. It only works if the dragon is transformed into the same species that they are having relations with. At that point, the dragon’s DNA takes on enough physical similarities to be compatible. If a child is conceived, it will be mostly of the species of the non-dragon parent, but have some traits of the dragon, usually in the form of slight scaling of the skin in certain areas, sometimes having a tail, horns or wings. They also tend to be larger than their regular species, stronger, faster, and amusingly, lazier. These half dragons are genetically compatible with their base species only. Even of another dragon were to transform into that species, they could not “add more” dragon to the bloodline. It’s also said that like their dragon parents, these children tend to have a much higher libido than their non-dragon parents, but most learn to keep it in check.
